Black Cowboy History Sites
Black cowboys played an indispensable role in the "Real West". Riding the range and driving cattle to market was not easy work, or as romantic and popular as pictured in movies and on television. In fact, it was low paying, highly dangerous, lonely work "not fit for upper classes of American society." Even though the Black Cowboy worked hard, proved he was equal, and helped build the West...the era of the Black Cowboy may be one of the most forgotten times in African-American History. Mike Mann & the Night Riders honor the men and women who lived these hard lives and who were, for the most part, 'forgotten' as the cowboy myth developed.

The Multicultural American West: A Resource Site: Very rich site from Washington State University. The "Multicultural West" is the only West there has ever been. This site challenges conceptions of the frontier that have ignored or covered over the indigenous, African-American, Spanish/Mexican, and Asian/Asian American histories.
Los Angeles' Buffalo Soldiers Web Site: The website of the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the 9th & 10th (Horse) Calvary, offers first hand accounts of African-American history described by the men who lived and created it. You'll also find information and links to websites on the contributions of African-Americans in the Western Frontier, and their historical participation in the Military of the United States of America.
